J’Lee Christy Self-taught Makeup Artist
My name is J’Lee Christy (pronounced like JUH-lee) and I’m from Denver, Colorado. I am self-taught; I started my makeup account in June 2020, but I’ve been doing my own makeup for about 8 years. I have monolid-shaped eyes, and for years I always believed I would never be able to do makeup the same way the beauty gurus on YouTube did because my eye shape was so different from theirs. I had even considered getting double eyelid surgery so that I’d have an eyelid crease like everyone else. But now, I’ve embraced it and love my eye shape because it gives me a blank canvas to create art on my eyelids! I pull inspiration from everything around me, from the boba tea I’m drinking to other artists I admire. But my favorite looks to create are the ones inspired by anime, cartoons, video games…anything animated! I’ll still do an eyeshadow look from time to time, but I love challenging myself to capture intricate details on such a small surface with face paints and eyeliners. My love for makeup turned into this creative outlet I had absolutely no expectations for. In just over one year, it’s already become bigger than I could have ever dreamed of, and I know this is only the beginning for me.
