“What would you do if you could change one thing in your life, knowing that you couldn’t fail?”
I remember exactly where I was sitting as I was reading this question and spilled the tea:
“Mom, I know I was glad about studying architecture, but I feel like I would’ve been happier in fashion.”
You know the truth by the way it feels, right?
I’m a good example of someone who decided to take the “safe” route of working a 9-to-5 job, but my heart would bring me back to my passion for art and design over and over again.
I am Michela Koleva, a fashion illustrator from Bulgaria helping self-taught fashion designers who feel overwhelmed and inexperienced in building their fashion brands. I provide them with systems and services to leverage their fashion illustrating and design skills and master the fashion design process, so they can elevate their fashion portfolio and designs and share them with the world, even without prior experience or a degree.
The brand Fashion ARTventures began as a learning-by-doing game! It all started in 2009 with a video I uploaded on YouTube that caught people’s attention. They asked me to show them how to render fashion design sketches.
Honestly, I had no idea what I was doing back then when I took the leap and started Fashion ARTventures. I was an exhausted architecture major who filmed fashion illustration tutorials at night, teaching art techniques and experimenting with media in front of the camera. It’s how I gained experience, tested my boundaries, and developed my style.
My go-to art medium? I’d be nothing without my markers and watercolors because they empower me to be the best version of myself and pursue my passion. But I also love to combine traditional and digital art techniques. Whenever you have no idea what to draw, remember that you can just take a different approach and create a collage instead.
My artwork captures the story of a moment in life and draws inspiration from the power of emotions, especially the enjoyment of and enthusiasm for life.
I work on creating tools and resources for self-taught fashion designers and illustrators who want to turn their passion into a successful business. But I also provide fashion illustration services, commissions for brand identity, and portraits custom-tailored to a desired theme and vision.
I had the pleasure of celebrating milestones, like seeing my illustrations featured in a Sendpoints publication, being listed among the top 10 fashion illustrators in the industry for 2016 by TopTeny.com Magazine, and being able to contribute my best work to various clients worldwide.
