Self Taught Abstract Art Artist Rachel Camilleri

Rachel Camilleri is a self taught Abstract Artist who lives in Manchester, United Kingdom. She was born in 1979 and raised in Salford, Manchester where she continues to live with her Husband and three young children. Rachel studied Art & Design at College and then went onto study a Joint Honours Degree in Media and Business Management at University. After working within the Media and Public Sector she took time out to raise her three young children, but has recently started painting as she feels the time is right to embrace her creative path.

Rachel Camilleri self taught Abstract Artist

Rachel creates bright abstract artworks, characterised by bold layering of vibrant colours and textures. Working mostly in acrylics and spray paint and using mainly a squeegee, her work is intuitive and expressive, as she draws inspiration from the world around her. Her hometown of Manchester, interior design, architecture, nature, street art and music are a few of her influences.

Rachel likes to use big and expressive movements when painting on canvas. Her art process is very energetic and can be likened to dancing. Creating large movements when applying the medium gives her mark making a sense of motion, thus creating energy within the painting.

Art is therapeutic for Rachel; its a positive outlet for expressing emotion. Working alone with just paints and a canvas, Rachel likes to create work that projects happiness and makes the viewer and herself smile.

Rachel loves the emotional impact that colour has on people. Colour is a powerful communication tool and can influence moods, feelings, behaviours and even physiological reactions. Rachel hopes her art has the ability to uplift and connect with the viewer through its spirited and vibrant colour palette.

Rachel has an exciting solo exhibition coming up from 16th April until 23rd June at The Lowry Hotel, Manchester. Rachel was given this opportunity by Comme Ca Art Gallery. ~ Rachel Camilleri
