Lisa Steinberg: Fashion Illustrator, and Event Sketcher Who’s Shaping the Future of Fashion Drawing
Lisa Steinberg is a Fashion Artist who has had an extensive career illustrating fashion. She grew up in NYC and attended the HS of Art and Design in NYC and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, where she studied Fashion Design and Illustration.
Lisa is an author and wrote and illustrated “Beginners Guide to Sketching the Fashion Figure” Fairchild/Bloomsbury Publishers in 2020. The book is a step by step guide that introduces beginner-level students to the women’s and men’s and children’s fashion figure proportions.
Three years ago Lisa was asked to illustrate shoppers at the Cherry Hill Mall in NJ for a special promo event. The sketches had to be fast and under 10 minutes. “While most of my illustrations have a style that appears loose with an energy that looks completed fast, each illustration actually takes hours to complete.” “ At this event I was illustrating at a speed of 10 minutes per figure. It was such an exciting challenge and accomplishment because the drawings, while small and simplified, captured the guest in a fun fashion pose, and the look on their faces when they received the finished drawing was thrilling for me to see. After that I decided to start a business as an event sketcher and have been sketching at parties , store promos and also for influencers and designers.
Lisa has also always taught fashion art and numerous other fashion courses at the college level.
She taught at Pratt Institute in the Fashion Design Program for close to 13 years and has also taught at Jefferson University in Philadelphia and Rowan College at Burlington County. Lisa also runs her own HS workshops in fashion drawing and most recently was asked to teach an online HS fashion course for RISD this spring.
