The Immersive and Colourful Artworks by Takeisha Ball
Takeisha Ball is a self-taught artist based out of Ontario, Canada. She is best known for her immersive, colourful landscapes and detailed portrait work. Originally from a small town in Newfoundland, Takeisha states that her passion for creativity first began as a child when she would spend hours in her grandfather’s woodshop painting extra wood pieces left over from his projects. Much of her inspiration comes from her memories of being surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and bountiful wildlife. Throughout her life painting was a just hobby, until she decided to open herself up to commissions in 2017 when her real career began.
It started with the ‘From Picture to Painting’ series. She would recapture her client’s favourite memories using acrylic mediums on canvas. Takeisha continued to work full-time and commission paintings on the side until she decided to leave her desk job and pursue her true calling full-time in 2020.
Since the start of her new career, Takeisha has had a successful stream of international commissions- many of which tell beautiful stories of love and loss.
One client requested a painting of her son in the arms of her mother-in-law who had passed before he was born. A seemingly daunting request to many- but she had proven herself to the task.
Another requested a painting of their grandfather’s military portrait with their grandmother’s hand-woven rug as the background. A beautiful concept that Takeisha carefully brought to life with much patience and a keen eye for detail.
She has also begun creating and selling original artwork outside of client requests. When asked about her creative process, Takeisha shared that most of her commissions begin with first creating a digital outline of the subject. Using a projector she then traces the outline onto canvas and paints the base colours for the piece. The remainder is often painted using a fine tip brush or acrylic paint marker to allow her to paint in great detail across the entire canvas. Takeisha describes her technique as “sculpting with paint”. She builds detail with multiple layers and shapes her work as the piece comes together. On average, most of her commissions take between 35-50 hours to complete depending on their size and level of detail. Her work favours a warm colour palette with a unique execution of metallic tones that she uses to capture textures such as silk, or as seen in one of her most recent works, sunlight reflecting off of a cityscape.
Takeisha shares her creative process through photos and videos on various social media platforms. You can view more of her work or submit a commision inquiry by visiting her website: www.creationsbytakeisha.com
