The Self Taught Makeup Artist Becki Mua My Road To Beauty

One of the main questions I have been asked over the years is: What got you into make-up and beauty? Well sit back, relax while I tell you my story.

I don’t have an exciting experience about how I got into make-up and beauty and what first pushed me into it, except the fact I have always been attracted to changing my appearance with make-up and seeing what I can do with it. Oh, and by the way, I am also self-taught. If I can do it, so can you. There are times when it can get difficult with my three beautiful boys (8, 6 and almost 4-year-old) but I love what I do and I manage to squeeze it in. I am a firm believer that if you want something badly you will go out there and learn it, and in this day and age, there are many different avenues to learn new things.

For the past three years, I have been ever more serious about make-up. After having my youngest son, I was struggling with things to occupy myself and that’s when I began getting more creative. I started by watching YouTube videos none stop, as well as Instagram videos, and that’s how I managed to teach myself how to do the looks that I love. If you have seen my Instagram account, you will know that I am obsessed with bold, colourful and over the top looks, and let’s face it, if you love make-up you do too. Another question I get asked is: How long does it take you to do that look? Well, they can take between one-three hours depending on the look I am trying to create.

I have also been trying pushing the limits with what I can do which has taken me into trying SFX, which I am still learning but I am very proud of how far I have managed to come with it.

I am proud to say that I have been featured on some AMAZING Instagram accounts, such as Manny MUA, Lunar Beauty and Arctic Fox (although that one was mainly because of the bright, pink split hair I had at the time). I am still amazed that I have achieved this goal and I hope to go further with it.

With everything that I have learned and everything I hope to learn in the future, I hope that 2021 will bring more opportunities my way! ~ Becki Mua
