My name is Monique van Steen and my art celebrates and empowers women, showing the female universe in all it’s deepness and swing.
The ever moving inner feminine world is what inspires me daily to portray and exhibit feelings in a world full of masculine expectations.
I paint strong women, strong in their fierceness, strong in their hopes, yet also strong in their sensuality, in their vulnerabilities and softness…
Bottomline: they are always their personal selves.
My style is aligned with that, using a visual language that is easily understood: Urban pop art.
The flowing outlines speak a clear message.
And the vibrant colors that I can’t resist to use over and over again add intensity to the personality of the depicted feelings.
The Art Nouveau era, with the recurring natural and female features in the architecture and urban furniture that are so present in Barcelona have an undoubtedly traceable influence in my art, that will surely enchant your eyes and your heart.
