Joseph A. Miller is an Associate Professor of Art at S.U.N.Y. Buffalo State University, boasts an extensive tenure of teaching drawing and painting since 1997. He successfully completed his B.F.A. degree at Kutztown University, Pennsylvania in 1990, and further pursued his M.F.A. degree specializing in painting and drawing at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1993. Prior to joining Buffalo State College, Joseph contributed his expertise at The Philadelphia Museum of Art, where he actively engaged in both security and art conservation departments.
Miller’s artworks are widely displayed across various public and private collections. They have gained international exposure in countries such as Finland, China, Poland, and the Czech Republic. Additionally, Miller’s pieces have been shown extensively throughout the United States, spanning from Berkeley, California to Cambridge, Massachusetts. His artwork has been showcased in renowned galleries including the Arnot Art Museum, the Castellani Art Museum, and the Burchfield-Penney Art Center in New York. Additionally, his creations have graced the walls of esteemed institutions such as the Allentown Art Museum, the Woodmere Art Museum, and the Erie Art Museum in Pennsylvania, as well as the Springville Museum of Art in Utah. He has achieved multiple accolades, notably securing a First Place Award in A.D. Gallery of Art in Times of Anxiety, National Exhibition in Pembroke, NC, a Purchase Award and a People’s Choice Award at the Royal Nebeker Gallery, Clatsop Community College’s, Au Naturel: The Nude in The 21st Century International Exhibition, held in Astoria, Oregon, received a prestigious First Place Award in the International Drawing Annual V organized by Manifest Creative Research Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio. Additionally, it secured the esteemed Best in Show Award in the National Drawing and Painting Exhibition at the Lore Degenstein Gallery, located at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania. Furthermore, two Purchase Awards were granted by Wright State University Art Galleries in Dayton, Ohio, acknowledging the exceptional quality of the artwork displayed. Joseph has conducted lectures on his work at various prestigious institutions including the University of Colorado at Boulder, Daemen College in New York, Southern Utah University, The University of Utah, Utah State University, and the Burchfield-Penney Art Center in Buffalo, New York.
