Draw Realistic Charcoal Portraits by Denny Stoekenbroek
I am a self-taught artist from the Netherlands who works with charcoal on paper. In the past, I used other mediums like acrylic paint, but found in charcoal a medium that works best for me to express my art. I make realistic charcoal portraits, but I also create cityscapes. The portraits are always about the face. Most of the time there is no background or it’s not important. I try to give my work the look and feel of old photos but with modern faces or city views. the black and white approach gives a possibility to give extra contrast in the drawing and can make a portrait more intense.
I like to catch the uniqueness of the human being. Most of the times the face has an expression, but without the context of the situation (or background) where the person is you can fill that in for yourself, so everybody can make his own story with the drawing. ~ @stoekenbroek
