My name is Arief Putra and I am a children’s book illustrator. I’m working from my small home studio in the corner of Jogja City, Indonesia.
Initially, I was trained as an architect. After graduate I work in a landscape architecture firm, but unexpectedly, my love of drawing took me to another path which is becoming a children’s book illustrator. Since I bought my drawing tablet, I know that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
In my journey to pursue career in art, I fell in love with storytelling illustration. My first inspiration in digital art was Pascal Campion and his daily sketches, I love how he tells story from a simple illustration. His art creates a foundation on how I tell my story through my art. From there, I was constantly learning to craft my own style by studying a more established children’s book Illustrator like Benji Davies, Dan Santat, Jon Klassen, Jim Field and many more. After I found gouache brush, I instantly fell in love with the texture.
